We held our inaugural meeting mid-2013, under the chairmanship of Val Allport. Since then we have been active in laying the foundations for our ideas and vision:
The purpose of TAHG is to record, preserve, archive and where possible display the unique history, geography and ecology of the parish. At the same time we wish to influence the future evolution, development and maintenance of Thorpeness and the surounding area, in sympathy with its history and context.
We have ambitious plans and one of our key objectives is to create a Heritage Visitor Centre in Thorpeness. We have identified a promising site for this, but it will require a major fundraising effort.
Living Memories
We believe that recordings of people’s memories of life in the parish gives a unique insight into a past that is quickly being forgotten. If we do not collect these memories now they will be lost forever. If you or your family would like to share your memories please contact us and we will arrange to do a recording.
Artifacts and Memorabilia
Again if you have anything you would like to share with us which we can take copies or photographs of, we would be most grateful. Some of you may have noted that not a lot has so far been mentioned of Aldringham, however we believe that both villages in the parish have a history which is inextricably linked and we are keen to ensure that we record memories and have artifacts from the whole parish.
